I grew up surrounded by fragrance in Los Angeles—night-blooming jasmine drifting through the neighborhood, my mother placing scented soaps in drawers and sprinkling fragrant powder on fresh sheets. She wore beautiful perfumes and supplied my father with elegant fragrances. At thirteen, we traveled through Europe together, journeying from Spain to France to Italy. Our passage through Grasse in Provence, France (the world's perfume capital) remains vivid—the scent of flower fields carried for miles before we arrived. We toured legendary parfumeries, and my mother brought home a bottle of Molinard. I still treasure that bottle of Habanita she bought in 1964. My passion for fragrance never faded as I grew into adulthood. In 1976, in Telluride, CO, I opened the town's first full-service florist, China Rose Greenhouse. The tradition on Memorial Day was for the widows of veterans to place Peonies on their husbands' graves. My trip to the Peony Farm outside of Grand Junction brought back memories of Grasse. I could smell the Peonies long before the colorful fields appeared over the hill. In 1987, inspired by English history, I opened Hampton Court Essential Luxuries in Telluride with Caswell-Massey as our cornerstone brand, complemented by Floris of London and other classic fragrance houses. When I relocated the shop to Santa Rosa, California, in 1988, a larger space allowed me to curate an expanded collection for a broader audience. We brought Hampton Court online in 2001, during the early days of retail's digital era. This expansion allowed us to introduce Molinard Parfums—my mother's fragrance—alongside an evolving selection of bath preparations, home fragrances, lotions, and soaps from International locations as well as niche US companies. Today, we remain devoted to discovering essential luxuries for the body, home, and soul, serving our community with deep gratitude. Thank you for visiting our website! |
